Topaz Plot

Topaz is an uncut jewel the size of a man’s fist, forged by magic, as a wedding gift for the new king and queen. Magic corrupted it.

Topaz feeds on despair, steals dreams, and ensnares the soul of anyone it desires. It cannot be cracked, smashed, melted, or defiled. The jewel is indestructible, or so everyone believes.

Rheaux was completely against the idea; she wanted Dor to give up thieving and become a farmer. Dor assured her this would be the last time. All he had to do was find the cave, find a dragon’s scale, and bring it to the castle for a bag of gold. What could go wrong?

Dor couldn’t pass up the challenge that had spread throughout the land. If he met the challenge, he would become the greatest thief of all time. He didn’t stop to consider who had issued the challenge or why. He never considered the consequences.

He found the cave and the scale, but he also found the dragon’s treasure, a topaz the size of a man’s hand. He couldn’t resist the temptation.

Now, an angry dragon roams the land looking for his treasured Topaz and the thief who took it.

When Dor does not return, Rheaux sets out to find him. She goes to the castle where the challenge was issued and where Dor will go to collect his gold. Instead of finding Dor, she becomes entangled with the affairs of the castle, and its evil magic.

What could go wrong? Everything.
